Amateur radio operators preparing for disaster

Requirements

Certified amateur radio operators with an interest in serving their community, and located within New Zealand are invited to Join the Alpine Fault Network.

If you are studying and expect to become a certified amateur radio operator within the next 12 months you are also invited to join.

To obtain the benefit of membership and to be of value when disaster strikes, you should aim to participte in at least 4 voice nets and 1 disaster simulation exercise per year.

Station

You will need all of the following;

  • Be a certified amateur radio operator issued with a callsign

  • Base, portable, or mobile amateur HF station

  • Batteries to operate off grid during training and exercises

  • A means of charging the batteries without grid power

  • Paper based log book and pen

  • Battery powered light / lamp

Modes

The team uses Phone, VarAC and Winlink Express. You can participate using any, or all of the above modes.
