Amateur radio operators preparing for disaster
/ Disaster /
Upon experiencing or becoming aware of a disaster anywhere within New Zealand, self activate without being asked or called.
If your Internet service is still working, send email to alpine-fault-net@groups.io advising other members of the disaster.
Within the email message, state your station callsign, location, and the frequency on which you intend maintaining watch.
Open your station only after confirming the safety and welfare of your own household and others nearby.
Activate your station by calling CQ ALPINE FAULT NET.
Be prepared to assume the role of NCS (Net Control Station) if you are the best operator for the task at the time.
Your amateur HF station located within an affected region is a gateway between your community and Alpine Fault Network stations located in other regions.
If you operate a field station, setup and open your station at a previously tested location within the community.
Switch on your PRS ( UHF CB) radio and scan for traffic.
